About the event
The Phantom of the Opera Middle East and Europe Tour was, at the time of its run, the largest touring musical theatre production in the world. Produced by Broadway Entertainment Group, the tour opened in Riyadh before moving through Dubai and into Europe, running from 2023 through to 2025 and reaching a total audience of 70,000 patrons across its run.
Orbit contributed two team members to the 30-strong production crew. Darrel served in an Assistant Company Manager capacity, an operational backbone of touring life including cast transportation, airport transfers, medical appointments, physiotherapy scheduling, and the full range of company management responsibilities that keep a large international touring production functioning day to day.
Keegan joined the production as A2 Audio Technician, working within the audio department across the tour. Responsibilities included RF microphone frequency management and deployment, microphone allocation and servicing, and full soundchecks prior to each performance. As the tour progressed, Keegan moved into mixing at front of house, completing over 30 mixed shows across multiple venues.
Riyadh presented a genuinely unusual challenge for a production of this scale. With no suitable theatre available, the production built a temporary performance space inside a marquee structure, creating a technically complex audio environment that the wider crew worked to resolve. Being part of a production team that delivered a show of this calibre in those conditions was a different kind of operational experience.
Next project
