YOUNITY

YOUNITY 2022 was a multi-event weekend celebration hosted by YoubeYou Tauranga Moana, anchored by a major outdoor concert on the Tauranga Waterfront. The main event drew 1,200 patrons to a 2,000 square metre park site, with a further 300 attending satellite events across the weekend including a comedy gala at Baycourt Theatre.

Orbit Entertainment was engaged to provide full turnkey event management across the entire weekend. Our scope covered everything from permitting and venue agreements through to supplier bookings, site build, on-site delivery, and post-event closeout. Planning deliverables included a full Event Management Plan, Health and Safety Plan, Traffic Management Plan, and event schedule.

The waterfront site was built and packed down within a single day each, with Orbit on the ground for the full duration of both. We managed mainstage construction, site theming, supplier coordination, and dealt with challenging weather conditions throughout the build. Volunteer management, crew briefings, contractor liaison, and noise monitoring were all managed by Orbit across the event day.

This event carried an elevated security classification, requiring a level of planning and coordination beyond a standard public event. Orbit managed a coordinated police presence throughout the event, developed and implemented suspicious package response planning, and designed the site layout to ensure vehicle exclusion from the patron areas. Every large site element was deliberately positioned to prevent unauthorised vehicle access to the crowd. These requirements added a significant layer of complexity to the planning and operational delivery, and were managed without incident.

On the second day of the weekend, Orbit transitioned from the waterfront site to Baycourt Theatre to stage manage the comedy gala. Moving between venues mid-weekend, maintaining operational continuity, and delivering across two entirely different event environments is exactly the kind of multi-venue capability Orbit brings to complex event schedules.

The event was delivered under budget. Established supplier relationships were leveraged to secure discounts and good-faith arrangements that kept costs below the original forecast without compromising delivery standards. Tauranga City Council expressed satisfaction with how the event was run and indicated support for further events of this kind in the city.
